Katelyn Makar

Katelyn has spent the majority of her life learning about horses and is always looking for new topics to cover. As a child and teen she rode in a variety of settings from regular lessons and trail rides to actively competing as a 3-day eventer and teaching beginner lessons. She gained an excellent foundation in horse care, horsemanship and coaching. Being part of a busy lesson and show barn opened many doors and allowed her to gain many, many skills including but not limited to:

Emergency equine first-aid, basic equine nutrition, basic saddle fit, foot care, trouble shooting and training.

At this same time, she purchased her first horse Kane, a 16.1hh grey Thoroughbred gelding (pictured to the right) who she had the pleasure of starting off the track. Which opened the door to many more training opportunities. Over the last 6 years as an active trainer, Katelyn has had the opportunity to work with numerous horses of all different backgrounds. From starting 2 and 3 year olds, training lesson horses to be “kid safe”, restarting off the track standardbreds and thoroughbreds, to dipping her toes into the hunter ring. Her training program, much like her coaching, focuses on correct communication, fun and softness. With a little bit of western riding, dressage foundation and 3-day eventer boldness there is almost no challenge she won’t approach.

Today, Katelyn focuses on learning new methods and being a positive influence on the local equine community.

Katelyn has now extended her services to include bit-fitting, along with training and coaching services.
